I worked my first real day of work today at

a pre-school!

Then I met with Roberts Publishing to work out a freelance relationship and also getting paid and then I came home and then I took a nap and now I'm eating ice cream.

But back to work -- I went in this morning at 8 a.m. and met Anička (pronounced "a-neetch-ka") who is 28 and is cool and is my partner for handling the youngest group of kids in the mornings, 8 a.m. to 13:00.

When I arrived, only Anička and a little girl named Amalka were there, but soon after kids trickled in. One of the first, a round-faced boy with a shock of spikey blond hair, went straight for the corner to play with the wooden trains with magnetized fronts and backs.

I said, "Good morning! What's your name?"

Anička told me his name was Otto, but he snapped around and said, "Ne, Michael Night!"

From the doorway, his mother explained that he loved cars and thus also the '80s show Night Rider starring David Hasselhoff, whose character's name he had adopted. When I said, "Hello, Michael Night!" he smiled warmly and went back to his trains.

That's how my day started.
